From our hotel the trail will start at the end of Gatlinburg, and travels to the Sugarlands Visitors Center inside the national park. The trail is 1.9 miles one-way and is relatively flat. The trail follows a river, and even gives you the opportunity to cross it by bridge which is perfect to capture a few pictures.

2. It’s a Short Drive by CarSugarlands-Visitor-Center

If you decide to enter the national park by car, you can reach the Sugarlands Visitors Center in just 5 minutes. Not only that, but you’ll pass the Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance sign which is a great place for pictures. Or you can stop by the Sugarlands Horse Stables to see and ride the horses. You could also drive up to the Gatlinburg Bypass, also known as US 441, to see scenic overlooks of Gatlinburg in less than 10 minutes. The Gatlinburg trolley is a highly affordable method of transportation in the city that lets you see many of the popular sights in the area. The trolley system has several trolley’s that go into the national park and stops at the visitors center. Once there, you can explore the exhibits in the visitors center, learn about local Appalachian history, and walk along the nature trails.
