Synchronous Fireflies are one of many types of fireflies in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. BUT the park is one of only two places in the world where this phenomenon occurs (Asia being the other). Since 1993 the peak time has varied from the last week of May to the third week of June. Experts believe the peak for this year will be between June 4-11. It’s a one of a kind experience and must be see in person at Elkmont.

The firefly shuttles between Sugarlands Visitor Center and Elkmont will be running June 4-11, 2014. The reservation system will open at 10:00 AM (Eastern Time) on April 30th.
